Whether you’re into watching ‘em or playing ‘em, the Green Bay area’s got an undeniable passion for sports. The list of local pro, semi-pro, amateur and collegiate leagues is as long as your arm, and touches on all of the favorites, such as football, baseball, hockey and basketball. If you’re more likely to play than to watch, we’ve got dozens of golf courses, softball and volleyball leagues, tennis courts and more to keep you in shape.

In the realm of professional sports, there’s naturally our world-famous Packers, winners of 12 championship titles, three Super Bowls and the heart of any person who professes to be a football fan. The Packers play in the recently renovated Lambeau Field, one part of a sports quadrangle that also includes the Packers Hall of Fame, the Don Hutson practice facility, and the sparkling new Resch Center, a $49 million sports and entertainment complex. But there’s a lot more to sports in the Green Bay area than the Pack.

Take collegiate sports. The Phoenix of UW-Green Bay is a popular basketball, volleyball and soccer venue, drawing thousands of spectators every year to watch its athletes in action. The highlight of Phoenix athletics may very well be the men’s NCAA Division I basketball, hosting several Big 10 opponents and major university teams the likes of Loyola and IUC. In nearby De Pere, the St. Norbert College Green Knights offer 20 intercollegiate sports, competing at the NCAA Division III level. St. Norbert College participates in the Midwest Conference and the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.

In the ranks of amateur and semi-pro sports, let’s start with the hard-hitting Green Bay Gamblers hockey. A member of the United States Hockey league team, the Gamblers consist largely of players under the age of 21, vying for scholarships at Division I schools. Gamblers games are filled with great hockey action and contests to keep the crowds involved.

If you’re the kind that longs for football action year-round, then you’ll be glad we’ve got the Green Bay Blizzard, our entry into the ranks of arena football. They show off their skills at the Resch Center from March through mid-July each year, and offer a great evening of entertainment with the twist only arena football can offer.

Baseball comes in the form of minor-league Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, the Class A farm team of the Seattle Mariners. Featuring fun between-inning events, the T-Rats play their home games at the Fox Cities Stadium, located about 30 minutes south of Green Bay.

If you’ve still got a hankering for sports, Milwaukee Brewers Major League Baseball and Milwaukee Bucks NBA basketball are within a two-hour drive. The Brewers host home games in the spectacular convertible-roof Miller Park, completed in 2002, while the Bucks play in The Bradley Center, a downtown arena and sports complex just a few minutes’ walk from famous sports bars and great restaurants.
